Using Microsoft Remote Desktop

If you do not know the address or login information for the computer you want to connect to, or you are unable to complete any of the listed processes as described, please submit an IT request.

Installing Microsoft Remote Desktop

  1. Open the Self-Service app.
  2. Find Microsoft Remote Desktop and click the Install button.

Adding a Computer for Remote Access

  1. In the top toolbar, click Connections.
  2. Click Add PC.
  3. In PC name, enter the address for the computer you want to connect to.
  4. To save login information, follow Saving Login Information for a Computer beginning at step 4.
  5. Click Save.

Saving Login Information for a Computer

  1. Select the computer you want to save login information for.
  2. In the top toolbar, click Connections.
  3. Click Edit PC.
  4. For User account, select Add User Account... or select a previously created login and skip to the next step.
    1. For Username, enter the username you wish to save.
    2. For Password, it is recommended that leave this field empty.
    3. Optionally, for Friendly Name, enter a name that describes the login you are saving.
    4. Click Add.
  5. Click Save.

Connecting to a Computer

  1. Double-click on the computer you want to connect to.

  1. Select the computer you want to connect to.
  2. Press return on your keyboard.
